Regular Exercise Key in Control of Type 2 Diabetes

Diabetes | Articles

Researchers found that regular exercise helps better manage blood sugar levels in those with type 2 diabetes. In fact, boosting exercise levels alone offered twice the benefit of efforts aimed at improving diet, exercise and medication adherence all at once.

Because Type 2 diabetes is closely linked to obesity, proper diet and exercise are critical focus areas in managing the disease. So why did exercise alone provide such an improvement? Dr. Vicki Conn, who led the study, stated that the results may be due to the fact that it is easier for people to focus on one thing at a time. Trying to make too many changes may actually overwhelm people.

The good news is that study participants benefited from the regular exercise focus regardless of their weight or how poor their blood sugar control had been in the past.
